Did you know AACTE offers special registration discounts for not only members but also “first-timers,” students, and PK-12 partners to attend the 2018 Annual Meeting? Now is a great time to think about inviting these groups to join us in Baltimore, Maryland, and save even more by registering before the Early Bird deadline of October 18.

Our Emerging Leader discount is meant for those members who are “first timers” and new to the profession. Dozens of junior faculty take advantage of this offering each year, which gets them full access to the conference at more than 60% off the regular member price. Eligible faculty/administrators have worked in higher education for 5 or fewer years and have never been to AACTE’s Annual Meeting before. Special requirements: The Chief Representative from your institution must designate Emerging Leaders (a maximum of three individuals) in our online registration system, after which those individuals may register at the discount. New Annual Meeting Session Formats to Elevate Engagement Opportunities

The AACTE 2018 Annual Meeting will feature new and improved sessions that will provide deeper levels of audience engagement. AACTE is committed to modeling best practices for effective learning and offering attendees contemporary approaches to pedagogy. Join AACTE in Baltimore, Maryland, for a collaborative and interactive educational experience designed to contextualize data and information, foster peer-to-peer interaction and dialogue, and apply sound principles of adult education.

All of the conference formats for Major Forums and concurrent sessions have been revamped. In fact, we will say “good-bye” to Major Forums and “hello” to Deeper Dives! In the enriched Deeper Dive sessions, still scheduled in pairs during dedicated time slots, you will get inspiring content to apply in your daily work by exploring the practices and dispositions crucial to educator preparation today. Topics at these sessions reflect work that is central to AACTE’s mission and its ongoing initiatives, including presentations from collaborating institutions, affiliate organizations, government agencies, think tanks, and thought leaders from the field.

New Webinar Series to Discuss Principals’ Transforming Roles, Preparation

This fall, AACTE will present a new webinar series called “Principals as Transformation Leaders,” supported by The Wallace Foundation as part of the Association’s ongoing partnership to disseminate the latest research and practice innovations in principal preparation. As faculty working with current and aspiring principals in Colorado, we are excited to serve as moderators for these webinars. The first webinar, titled Principals as Transformation Leaders: Changing Roles and Responsibilities, will be held October 12 at 3:00 p.m. EDT. Transformation leaders identify needs and empower stakeholders to implement positive change to maximize the desired results. They are visionary, resourceful, and adaptable – qualities that are especially valuable in today’s educational environment, where the roles and responsibilities of a principal are changing drastically in any typical day. AACTE Hosts Quality Support Workshop in Minnesota

Participants share their stories and engage in scenario planning during a session led by Jacob Easley II (Eastern Connecticut State University) and Valeisha Ellis (Spelman College).

AACTE held its second Quality Support Workshop August 10-12 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, convening educator preparation professionals for a highly interactive, expert-facilitated event focused on quality assurance, assessment, accreditation, and more. More than 150 faculty, administrators, assessment and accreditation coordinators, and other educators engaged in the workshop, continuing the momentum established in the inaugural AACTE Quality Support Workshop in Texas last spring.

This week, more than 150 attendees are hard at work in Minneapolis, Minnesota, participating in AACTE’s Quality Support Workshop. The diverse group of educators from the Midwest and beyond are engaging in deep-dive sessions enhancing their programs and planning around continuous improvement, assessment, accreditation, and quality assurance.

During the event, which runs through Saturday, the interactivity has extended well beyond the conference rooms as attendees share posts on social media, connect at receptions, and pose for photos in the hallways. Facilitators at Workshop to Include Experts From EPPs, Partner Organizations

Next month, AACTE’s Quality Support Workshop in Minneapolis will help participants take their programs and practices to the next level with 2 days of hands-on, expert-facilitated sessions. Attendees will interact with leaders from educator preparation programs (EPPs) as well as with researchers, program administrators, and other professionals who will be on hand to guide their progress at the Hyatt Regency Minneapolis, August 10-12.

Participants can work on assessment data, quality assurance plans, standards and evidence for accreditation, and much more in their choice of over two dozen sessions led by these facilitators:

New Additions to AACTE Workshop in Minneapolis

Thanks to several brand-new sessions and revamped activities throughout the original program, next month’s regional AACTE Quality Support Workshop will deliver an even more robust program than its popular predecessor. During the event August 10-12 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, participants will choose from two dozen expert-facilitated workshops offered in seven time blocks – with topics such as interpreting candidate assessment data, mapping curricula to competency indicators, preparing evidence for an accreditation visit, recruiting and supporting more diverse candidates, and others.

Many of the sessions from last spring’s southern regional workshop, held in Fort Worth, Texas, will run again in Minneapolis with few changes. Others are bringing in new facilitators or making adjustments to reflect feedback from attendees (the organizers do try to practice what they preach about using data for improvement!).

AACTE is excited to be hosting the 2017 Midwest regional Quality Support Workshop August 10-12 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The summer is a wonderful and exciting time to be visiting the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, so when you are not indoors working on quality assurance, accreditation, and assessment with our jam-packed schedule, there is plenty more to do right outside the hotel doors!

Our host hotel, the Hyatt Regency Minneapolis, is conveniently located on Nicollet Mall in downtown Minneapolis. Nicollet Mall is lined with shopping, cafes, and an array of other sites – see this map of key attractions. If you venture northeast to the Mississippi River, you can enjoy the waterfront and even take a kayak tour, board a river cruise, or rent a bike from any of the Nice Ride stations around the city.

July Webinar to Highlight Local Action to Diversify Teacher Pipeline

On July 27, AACTE will host the final installment of a four-part webinar series highlighting the experiences and findings of each of the 10 institutions in the AACTE Black and Hispanic/Latino Male Teachers Initiative Networked Improvement Community (NIC). The webinar, “Diversifying the Teacher Pipeline at CSU-Fullerton and Northeastern Illinois University: Lessons From AACTE’s NIC,” will be held on Thursday, July 27, 2:00-3:00 p.m. EDT.

In this webinar, presenters from California State University, Fullerton, and Northeastern Illinois University will discuss the how their teams applied improvement science in the context of the NIC, as well as at their own institutions. The discussion will feature specific initiatives and strategies developed by both institutions’ teams and will demonstrate how NIC-developed approaches can be adapted locally to advance a common goal – in this case, to increase the percentage of Black and Hispanic/Latino men receiving initial teaching certification through educator preparation programs.

AACTE 2017 Washington Week Recap

During the AACTE Washington Week, June 4-7, teacher educators, preservice teachers, and PK-12 school administrators united under the event theme “Diverse Perspectives, Deep Partnerships, One Profession.” The convening brought together attendees from across the nation to discuss important education policies and advocate for educator preparation with members of Congress and their staff.
