NCTR’s BEI Releases Education Policy Report to Better Support Black Educators
The National Center for Teacher Residencies’ (NCTR) Black Educators Initiative (BEI) recently released a report focused on state, higher education, and school district recommendations to support the recruitment and preparation of Black educators.
Informed by the work and impact of NCTR’s BEI-supported teacher residency programs, the report, “Doing Better for Black Educators: Six Policy Recommendations for Improving the Recruitment and Preparation of Black Educators,” provides six policy recommendations and action steps that are meant to help teacher preparation programs, school districts, and states use what BEI grantees are learning in order to improve the recruitment, preparation, and support of Black educators across the country.
On February 22, NCTR hosted a webinar with a panel of dynamic guest speakers from teacher residency programs as well as individuals representing the state, district, and higher education perspective who each shared their knowledge and experiences toward supporting Black educators in relation to the policy recommendations. The guest speakers included the following:
- Kathlene H. Campbell, Ph.D., Chief Executive Officer, National Center for Teacher Residencies
- Eric Duncan, J.D., Assistant Director of P-12 Policy – Educator Diversity, The Education Trust
- Lindsey Hamilton, Director of Equity and Programming, Nashville Teacher Residency
- Charles King, President and Chief Executive Officer, Kansas City Teacher Residency
- Faith Wilkerson, Ed.D., Program Director, Minority Educator Recruitment, Retention and Equity Center, Virginia Commonwealth University/RTR
- Latanya Daniels, Ed.D., Assistant Superintendent, Richfield Public Schools (MN)
