AACTE Annual Meeting attendeed in the AACTE galleryWe invite all attendees of the 72nd Annual Meeting to visit the AACTE Gallery. This year, the Gallery will feature poster presentations, small group discussions to network with colleagues, multiple opportunities to win prizes, and even a chance to win a free registration for the 2021 Annual Meeting!

Poster Presentations
AACTE Holmes Scholars and National Association of Community College Teacher Education Programs (NACCTEP) members will present their research in the Gallery during the timeslots below:

  • NACCTEP Poster Session: Friday, February 28 from 10:00 – 11: 00 a.m.
  • Holmes Poster Session: Saturday, February 29 from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.

Coffee and Conversations
The Gallery will feature small roundtable discussions where members can meet, learn from each other, and join the conversation on a variety of topics facilitated by the AACTE Topical Action Groups (TAGs). Below are just a few of the conversations taking place:

Do you enjoy reading the latest edition of the Journal of Teacher Education (JTE)? Do you access AACTE’s free downloadable resources, such as Colleges of Education: A National Portrait or Education Students and Diversity? Then you won’t want to forget to renew your AACTE membership for 2020! 

Your AACTE membership runs from January 1 to the end of the year. To ensure you do not miss the many members-only resources, renew your membership before December 31, 2019.

Arrows | Initiate. Collaborate. DiscussAre you interested in connecting with colleagues that share your interests and have similar areas of expertise? If so, AACTE encourages you to join one of our Topical Action Groups (TAGs). TAGs are AACTE action-oriented working groups that focus on areas such as accreditation, Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), elementary education, research in teacher preparation, international education, and women in leadership–just to name a few. In addition to collaborating with your peers, AACTE provides TAGs with operational funds, marketing and staff support, and complimentary meeting space at the AACTE Annual Meeting.

Help AACTE keep you informed on developments that impact educator preparation. Update your member profile! Our online process makes it easy and fast—just visit aacte.org to access the AACTE Profile Manager. 

The AACTE Profile Manager allows us retrieve the most accurate member information to deliver the content and communications you’ll find most valuable. The Profile Manager allows you to edit your contact information, select your research areas of expertise, view any outstanding orders, and manage your subscriptions.  An updated profile also provides us the opportunity to customize information specific to your member needs. 

In Memoriam: Kathryn Hildebrand

Kathryn Hildebrand, AACTE member and dean of Idaho State University (ISU) College of Education, passed away on Monday, February 25 after a battle with cancer. 

As a vital advocate for the educator preparation community, Kathy targeted her efforts toward creating strong partnerships with school districts in the region, which included promoting dual enrollment courses high school students could take to earn credits at the College of Education.  Kathy pushed the agenda within the education community, with a focus on priorities that included course offerings through innovative technology, distance learning, and online models. 

Kathy earned an undergraduate degree in psychology and a master’s degree in education from Stanford University where she was a track athlete. She holds a doctorate in physical education and curriculum and instruction from Florida State University.  She served as dean of the College of Education at ISU since March 2018, having previously served in the same capacity at Troy University. She also served as the AACTE chief representative for the ISU College of Education.

Community College Educator Preparation Programs Are Invited to Join the NACCTEP/AACTE Partnership

In July 2018, AACTE and the National Association of Community College Teacher Education Programs (NACCTEP) entered into an 18-month pilot partnership program to foster collaboration through the common goals of advocating for, advancing, and diversifying educator preparation programs. Since then, the partnership has grown with community colleges from seven states: California, Oregon, Maryland, Arizona, Colorado, Minnesota, and Texas. If you are part of a community college educator preparation program interested in connecting with 4-year degree-granting institutions, then you can join the partnership too!

The partnership helps strengthen the teacher pipeline, bring diversity to the field, and advance the preparation of educators. In addition to receiving NACCTEP benefits, all partners receive AACTE benefits, including the following:

Applications Now Available for AACTE–NACCTEP Partnership

Applications are now available for the new partnership program of AACTE and the National Association of Community College Teacher Education Programs (NACCTEP). Community colleges that offer educator preparation programs are welcome to apply!

AACTE and NACCTEP launched the partnership for 2018-2019 to foster collaboration among our memberships through the common goals of advocating for, advancing, and diversifying educator preparation programs. This pilot partnership connects 4-year degree-granting institutions and community college educator preparation programs to grow and strengthen the teacher pipeline, bring diversity to the field, and advance the preparation of educators.
