New edTPA National Academy to Support Teacher Preparation Programs

A team of teacher preparation experts experienced with edTPA will be available beginning in January 2015 to support the implementation of edTPA by teacher preparation programs across the country.
The National Academy consultants will be recruited and trained by the Stanford Center for Assessment, Learning, and Equity (SCALE) in partnership with AACTE.
The consultants will be available to work with programs, states, and regions on many facets of edTPA implementation. Members of the National Academy include edTPA trainers, benchmarkers, scorer trainers, implementation support providers, PK-12 teacher leaders, and national leaders promoting the educative value of an assessment built by the profession and for the profession.
Beginning next month, National Academy implementation support providers will be available to assist programs with workshops or webinars on topics such as the following:
- General introduction to edTPA
- Deep-dive handbook and rubric walk-throughs
- Preparing for local evaluation
- Curriculum mapping
- Academic language
- Formative assessment
This is both an edTPA program service and a fee-for-service resource that connects regional networks or clusters of programs with an edTPA National Academy consultant who meets specific needs. Consultants can provide face-to-face or webinar-based professional development for regional, state, or network events, or webinar-based support for individual programs.
Requesting and Connecting With Consultants. Starting in January, the edTPA web site will provide a “Seek Support” button for requesting implementation support services. Interested programs can request a consultant who matches program needs from the edTPA National Academy database. Consultants’ online profiles will be accessible to programs seeking support so they can review and select the consultant they wish to engage. Programs will work directly with the consultant to review presentation arrangements and topics, agree upon a fee, and arrange travel and logistical details. Programs/groups will be responsible for the consultant fee and any consultant travel and per diem expenses.
SCALE and AACTE continue to accept applications to participate in the National Academy. Faculty experienced with edTPA or other performance-based assessments of teaching are encouraged to apply here.
