University of Dayton Professor of Early Childhood Education to Receive 2022 AACTE Margaret B. Lindsey Award for Distinguished Research in Teacher Education

2022 AACTE Margaret B. Lindsey Award for Distinguished Research in Teacher Education - Shauna Adams, Ed.D., ACTE (American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education) today announced Shauna Adams, Ed.D., Professor of Early Childhood Education in the University of Dayton School of Education and Health Sciences as the recipient of the 2022 AACTE Margaret B. Lindsey Award for Distinguished Research in Teacher Education. The Margaret B. Lindsey Award recognizes an individual whose research over the last decade has made a significant impact on the field of teacher education and will be awarded at the AACTE 74th Annual Meeting in New Orleans, La, on March 6.

Dr. Adams conceptualized and designed the Bombeck Center for Early Learning and currently serves as its Executive Director. This top-rated, demonstration school serves Ohio Miami Valley families and links the academy to the community through the scholarship of application and teaching and learning. Under her direction, the Bombeck Center provides access to services and education, particularly for families faced with challenges of poverty and marginalization. Dr. Adams has also garnered over $1.2 million in grant funding that has supported the development of education professionals. She has published dozens of journal articles and curriculum series, including the highly regarded textbook, Developing and Administering a Child Care and Education Program, now in its 10th edition (2021). Dr. Adams’ service to the profession has informed the development of child-centered assessments, academic content standards, and teacher licensure requirements in early childhood education. Serving as Director of the Bombeck Center, she developed five certificate programs, including the Infant and Toddler Specialist Certificate, an online program for graduate and undergraduate students. The graduate program is ranked second in the nation by Johns Hopkins University.

“Dr. Shauna Adams is an outstanding representation of all that the award represents. She has conducted research in the field of early education for decades. Her publications and grants have resulted in innovative program development and have informed developmentally appropriate practices for early childhood preservice teachers, practitioners, administrators, and policy makers,” said Dean Ali Carr-Chellman, School of Education and Health Sciences, University of Dayton. “She has presented numerous times at AACTE and other international and national conferences. Her book, Developing and Administering a Child Care and Education Program (10th edition, 2022), is among the top ranked textbooks in the market.”

The 26th annual AACTE Awards Program honors member institutions and individuals who have made bold, extraordinary, and innovative contributions to the profession of teacher education.

“Dr. Adams’ commitment to teacher education and all her accomplishments makes her an ideal candidate for the 2022 AACTE Margaret B. Lindsey Award,” said Lynn M. Gangone, AACTE president and chief executive officer. “We look forward to honoring both her and her many achievements at the AACTE 74th Annual Meeting this March.”
