NYACTE Invites In-State and Out-Of-State Submission for Its Online Journal

The journal of the New York Association of Colleges for Teacher Education, Cover - Excelsior: Leadership in Teaching and Learning, has successfully navigated from a print journal with a subscription price to an online, open access journal that is free. Our new co-editors, Christine Ashby and Julia White have just published their first issue. The journal welcomes submissions from all interested teacher and leader educators.

Excelsior is the key outlet for publishing work in teacher preparation for the New York Association of Colleges for Teacher Education. For over a decade, it has reported research across content disciplines, research methodologies, theoretical perspectives, and current issues in the field.

In addition to presenting authors the opportunity to publish in an open access journal, we want to increase the diversity of manuscript topics, including the diversity of research methods, and extend the range of researchers and practitioners publishing in Excelsior. To meet this goal we will routinely solicit submissions from:

  • The NYACTE membership
  • The New York State Association of Teacher Educators, as well as the national Association of Teacher Educators
  • NYSUT, and the national memberships, state affiliate/chapter memberships, and special interest groups of the national content area
  • Other education organizations such as the National Council of Teachers of English, National Council of Teachers of Math, National Council for the Social Studies, National Science Teachers Association, American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages, Council for Exceptional Children, Music Teachers National Association, National Art Education Association, National Association for the Education of Young People, National Association for Sport and Physical Education, the International Literacy Association, and Division K and other relevant Special Interest Groups of the American Educational Research Association

Although researchers and practitioners across New York State have written the majority of articles up to this point, we want to cast a wider net through national professional organization listservs to increase the chances of out-of-state manuscript submissions, thus increasing the likelihood of accepting manuscripts from out-of-state authors. In this way, we will be able to disseminate research that would highlight best practices in teacher education across the nation that could potentially inform teacher education practices in New York State. We are also committed to working to ensure that Excelsior is included in the list of journals indexed by ERIC, Google Scholar, and as many education databases as possible.

By encouraging submissions from researchers and practitioners who do not typically publish in Excelsior, we hope to clearly signal our interest in continuing to publish research across disciplines, research methodologies, and theoretical frameworks. We invite you to both submit to Excelsior and disseminate our call for manuscripts to your professional networks. We look forward to your submissions!
