Marta Perez Drake to Serve as Interim President and CEO Through 2024
Chief Operating Officer (COO) Marta Perez Drake, will serve as interim president and CEO of AACTE through the remainder of 2024, positioning the Association to welcome the next president and CEO into their role in the coming months.
Drake has worked as COO of AACTE since January 2023. She has led all internal operations of the Association, from leading its groundwork in events like the Annual Meeting and Leadership Academy to assisting the president and CEO in carrying out the Association’s strategic priorities and diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, and making AACTE membership an equitable opportunity for all educator preparation professionals.
“I am honored to step into the role of interim president and CEO of AACTE,” Drake said. “I look forward to collaborating with AACTE’s Board of Directors, members, stakeholders, and staff as we navigate the transition and welcome a new president and CEO in the months ahead.”
Drake has advocated for the higher education community for over 30 years in several roles. Before joining AACTE, she most recently served as senior vice president at the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO) where she was a part of the staff for over 15 years. Other higher education associations Drake has worked for are the Council of Graduate Schools (CGS), the American Council on Education (ACE), and the American Association for Higher Education (AAHE). Drake has also had roles at two universities, serving in student, faculty, and academic affairs at Duke University and Georgetown University.
Drake received a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Duke University, a Master of Arts in communication studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and has pursued a Ph.D. in communications studies since 2020 from George Mason University, where she has achieved the “ABD” status.
