Preview AACTE’s Washington Week 2024: Testimonial from State Leaders
The June 3 – 5, 2024 AACTE Washington Week is just around the corner. This year’s national advocacy event for educator preparation will be held at the Renaissance Arlington Capital View Hotel in Arlington, VA, and on Capitol Hill.
AACTE’s legislative conference aims to improve member advocacy skills, including Congressional visits while advocating for policies that support educator preparation programs.
Combining programming from three distinct events — the State Leaders Institute, Holmes Policy Institute, and Day on the Hill — AACTE’s Washington Week establishes a mini-conference fostering heightened collaboration and networking opportunities.
At Washington Week 2023, Daniel R. Conn, Ed.D. of Minot State University, and Meghan Salyers, Ph.D., of the University of Mary, both members of North Dakota Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (NDACTE), attended the half-day institute for state affiliate organization leaders. Salyers and Conn highlighted the opportunity to network with leaders from multiple states and institutions. Salyers noted that during roundtable discussions, leaders could “learn about what other states are working on” and exchange ideas. Conn emphasized the “rich pool of resources” available, many of which were previously unknown to him and others.
Conn and Salyers emphasized the importance of working together to gain new strategies and felt empowered during the State Leaders Institute event. “It is a critical time in teacher education,” says Conn. Washington Week offers the perfect opportunity to learn more about resources and ways to enhance your advocacy skills and champion for educator preparation.
