Prepared to Teach: How New Mexico is Building Its Path

This two-day convening on May 30-31, 2024 in Albuquerque, NM, will explore concrete, synergistic actions based on the Prepared to Teach model to produce positive, mutually reinforcing transformations in the teacher preparation ecosystem.

Day 1 of this convening will review New Mexico’s robust, supportive public and policy environment for teacher preparation transformation. Attendees will have the opportunity to explore key approaches for shifting public narratives about teacher preparation and education, using new and existing data to build political will for residency funding, and framing policies that support ecosystem shifts.

Day 2 will allow attendees to hear from partners across the state on their collective efforts to strengthen the teacher preparation ecosystem by recruiting to meet local hiring needs and reflect student demographics, reducing variability across programs through intentional pre-service instructional models, and supporting sustainability through local investments of resources.

Anyone is welcome to attend this convening, but the event is designed for state-affiliated groups that represent a range of institutions and sectors. These teams might include different kinds of preparation programs, PK-12 district and school leadership, state department of education leaders, legislative staffers, educational philanthropy representatives, and/or workforce offices creating teacher residencies.

Register as an individual attendee or as a state group online.
