AACTE Joins National Coalition to Combat SPED Shortages

AACTE has joined the National Coalition on Personnel Shortages in Special Education and Related Services (NCPSSERS) to continue advancing toward solutions for the nationwide PK-12 special educator shortage. 

NCPSSERS is a national coalition composed of more than 30 participating member organizations. Since 2006, NCPSSERS has been dedicated to addressing the issue of shortages in special education and related services personnel in schools. 

NCPSSERS Mission 

The mission of NCPSSERS is to develop and disseminate resources and strategies at the national, state, and local levels to help identify and remedy personnel shortages and persistent vacancies in special education and specialized instructional support services to improve outcomes for all children and youth. 

NCPSSERS Purpose 

  • Bring together stakeholders to work collaboratively to address personnel shortages and persistent vacancies in special education, specialized instructional supports, and early intervention services. 
  • Monitor, track, and collect related data and information. 
  • Develop and disseminate information and recommendations related to policy and practice for dealing with personnel shortages and persistent vacancies. 
  • Engage in advocacy at the federal, state, and local levels for the implementation of strategies to remedy personnel shortages and persistent vacancies.
