Volunteer for a Leadership Position: If Not You, Then Who? If Not Now, Then When?

Engage as a Volunteer

Have you considered volunteering for a leadership position within AACTE? Whether you volunteer to lend your talent and expertise to one of AACTE’s programmatic advisory committees or seek a position on the Board of Directors, now is a great time to step forward. Nominations are due by April 30.

Educator preparation is an essential element in revolutionizing education and combatting the divisive issues threatening our nation’s education systems. AACTE is at the center of efforts to ensure that all students receive the expert instruction and support they need and deserve.

AACTE is currently seeking applications from volunteers to stand for election as an at-large representative to the Board of Directors. There are two openings for at-large representatives.

Additionally, AACTE is seeking volunteers to serve on the following programmatic advisory committees:

  • Educator Diversity
  • Global Diversity
  • Government Relations and Advocacy
  • Holmes Program
  • Innovation and Technology
  • Meetings and Professional Development
  • Membership Development and Capacity Building
  • Research and Dissemination

Eligibility

AACTE Chief Representatives and Institutional Representatives are eligible to serve on the Board of Directors, if there has been at least three years since any prior service on the Board.

All faculty, staff, and administrators from member institutions are eligible to serve on a programmatic advisory committee. Members may not serve on more than one programmatic advisory committee at the same time.

Self-nominations are accepted. The nominator and nominee must be from current AACTE member institutions.

Timing and Commitment

Terms of Board service are for three years from March 1, 2023, to February 28, 2026. Board candidates will be selected by October 2022, and a member election for Board vacancies will occur in November 2022. The Board meets three times each year, with one of those meetings typically occurring in person at the AACTE Annual Meeting.

Committee appointments will be approved by the AACTE Board of Directors in early fall. Those appointed will serve a three-year term beginning March 1, 2023. Committees typically meet once in person during the AACTE Annual Meeting and virtually during the remainder of the year.
