AACTE Hosts Holmes Summer Professional Development Series

Holmes Scholars logoAACTE is excited to announce another free professional development series for its Holmes Scholars this summer. This series will incorporate and build on skills covered at this year’s Holmes Preconference to serve both those scholars who were unable to join their peers at the preconference while also expanding on the professional development themes of navigating the job market and writing skills.

AACTE invites all Holmes Scholars to review and register for the following sessions:

Session 1: Navigating the Job Market

  • June 22, 1:00 p.m. EST
  • Register in advance.
  • This presentation will provide scholars with skills for building your brand as you navigate the job market and will differentiate tips for domestic and international students. 
  • Speaker: Diandra Prescod

Diandra PrescodDiandra J. Prescod is an associate professor and program coordinator of School Counseling at the University of Connecticut. In her previous role, she was an assistant professor of counselor education and program coordinator of career counseling at Pennsylvania State University. Her research focuses on career development interventions for (a) STEM undergraduate students and (b) women/students of color in higher education. Prescod currently serves as secretary for the European Branch of the American Counseling Association and spent one year as secretary and member of the organizing committee for the Pennsylvania Career Development Association (est. 2019) that won the National Career Development Association’s Outstanding State Division Award in 2020. She is active in the field of counselor education and presents her research nationally and internationally.

 

Session 2: Elevator Pitches

  • This presentation will provide scholars with skills for crafting formal and informal elevator pitches as they navigate the job market and beyond
  • Speakers: Nicole Dunn and Diandra Prescod

Diandra PrescodNicole DunnNicole Dunn, MBA, is the assistant director of equity & strategic initiatives at AACTE. Her expertise lies in nonprofit management and educational equity. In addition to serving as a secondary STEM educator for 8 years, Dunn has experience pitching social ventures to investors and has won several monetary awards for these presentations, including being selected as a Hult Prize finalist.

 

Session 3: Transforming your Presentation into a Publication

  • Date: August 22, 1:00 p.m. EST
  • Register in advance.
  • This presentation will discuss tips and considerations for turning conference presentations into publications. 
  • Speaker: Autumn Campbell

Autumn CampbellAutumn Cabell is a third-year tenure-track assistant professor in counseling at DePaul University. Her research centers on the career development and mental health of marginalized students in STEM and the career development of marginalized counselors.
