NAEd Releases AACTE Commissioned Report Evaluating and Improving Teacher Preparation Programs
A Tale of Two Cities: State Evaluation Systems of Teacher Preparation Programs
The National Academy of Education (NAEd) steering committee for Evaluating and Improving Teacher Preparation Programs commissioned the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE) to produce a teacher evaluation system landscape analysis, including a state-by-state summary of the evaluation system components and an analysis of similarities and differences between and among states. Authored by AACTE Dean in Residence Leslie T. Fenwick, this landscape analysis report presents information and data about state evaluation standards for teacher preparation programs and providers.
This report is accompanied by a web-based interactive state map of state statutes governing TPPs and providers. Access the map and click your states of interest for information on (1) State Approval Requirements (Teacher Prep); (2) Program Evaluation Components; (3) Internship; and (4) Summary Statement.
NAEd also released three commissioned papers:
- Evaluating the Clinical Component of Teacher Preparation Programs
Etta R. Hollins, Univ. of Missouri-Kansas City and Connor K. Warner, The University of Utah - Using Teaching Performance Assessments for Program Evaluation and Improvement in Teacher Education
Charles A. Peck, Univ. of Washington, Maia Goodman Young, Univ. of Washington, and Wenqi Zhang, Univ. of Washington - International Insights on Evaluating Teacher Education Programs
Mistilina Sato, Univ. of Canterbury and Jane Abbiss, Univ. of Canterbury
The commissioned paper series is part of the Evaluating and Improving Teacher Preparation Programs project by the National Academy of Education (NAEd) that aims to identify best practices among existing models of evaluation tools and provide recommendations for the development of new models. The commissioned papers will be published on a rolling basis.
This commissioned paper series covers key aspects of teacher preparation and evaluation methods that support high-quality preparation and continuous program improvement. The paper series will inform the writing of a consensus study report, which is currently in development under the guidance of the steering committee.
Please check back on our project website for forthcoming publications.
