AACTE Launches Holmes Program Summer Learning Series

To support the academic, professional and personal growth of Holmes Program participants, AACTE will offer a learning series this summer to Holmes doctoral and master’s students at participating institutions. The sessions offered in the upcoming series will be led by diverse and accomplished leaders in the field. All sessions will build on prior professional development that have been offered to the Holmes Program participants and will address their unique needs as graduate students of color who are pursuing degrees in education.

  • Practicing Radical Self-Care to Thrive in Scholarship and Life: This interactive workshop will offer strategies and include physical exercises to nurture the mind, body, and spirit of Holmes participants so they will thrive throughout their journey in academia.

    Facilitators: Kimberly White-Smith, dean, and Niki Elliott, co-director of the Center for Neurodiversity, Learning and Wellness at the LaFetra College of Education at the University of LaVerne.
  • Advancing Anti-Racist Teaching through Educational Research: Through this session, scholars will increase their knowledge of how to develop and implement a research agenda that advances anti-racist policies and practices in education.

  • Where do we go from here? Lessons from the Twin Pandemics: This session will provide an opportunity for scholars to reflect on the events of the past year and receive guidance on how to enhance their research and advocacy to advance social justice in education.
