AACTE Board of Directors Creates Two New Committees to Promote DEI

The AACTE Board of Directors recently created two new advisory committees to promote diversity in the educator workforce and among future leaders and scholars in educator preparation. These committees will be an integral part of fulfilling the strategic priority of diversity, equity, and inclusion outlined in AACTE’s strategic plan.

Advisory Committee on Educator Diversity

The purpose of this committee is to advise the AACTE staff and Board of Directors on current trends, issues, and programming needs related to advance diversity in educator preparation program faculty and candidates. The committee shall provide recommendations and feedback for program improvement that may pertain to the following:

  • Culturally sustaining recruitment and retention strategies
  • Evaluation of recruitment and retention strategies
  • Faculty professional development
  • Candidate learning communities
  • Fundraising and development
  • DEI initiatives and related projects

The Committee is an outgrowth of the AACTE Diversifying the Workforce Topical Action Group (TAG), which will continue to operate in tandem with the new committee. Together, the committee and TAG are a powerful demonstration of the interest and commitment of AACTE members to promote an education workforce that mirrors the diversity of the PK-12 student population.

Holmes Program Advisory Committee

The purpose of the Holmes Program Advisory Committee is to advise the AACTE staff and Board of Directors on the Holmes Program, AACTE’s signature program promoting diversity among leaders and scholars in education. The committee will provide recommendations and feedback for program improvement that may pertain to the following:

  • Program activities
  • Fundraising and development
  • Program expansion and sustainability
  • Program evaluation
  • Opportunities for Holmes students

A nomination process will be announced shortly to solicit volunteer members for both committees.  If you are interested in nominating yourself or a colleague for one of these important committees, please visit the AACTE website and follow Ed Prep Matters for additional information. The new committees will have their first meetings in conjunction with the 2021 AACTE Annual Meeting.
