Call for Nominations: Teacher Diversity Research Award
AACTE’s Diversified Teaching Workforce (DTW) Topical Action Group invites you to register for a free institute and to nominate individuals – by December 15 – for the 2018 DTW Teacher Diversity Research Award.
The second annual Diversified Teaching Workforce Institute will convene February 28, 2018, at the AACTE 70th Annual Meeting in Baltimore, MD. The institute will unite a group of national leaders at colleges and universities across the United States to spotlight and explore innovative efforts for addressing racial/ethnic teacher diversity across five key areas: recruitment and retention, teacher preparation, mentorship, induction and professional development, and advocacy.
Recognizing the need to create spaces within professional networks to discuss and unpack the challenges and possibilities for increasing teacher diversity, the institute offers presentations on current research, opportunities to plan in working groups, and panel sessions focused on best practices from teacher preparation and teacher diversity pipeline leaders. Panels currently being planned include these:
- Teacher Diversity Initiatives Across the U.S.: Stakeholders from Teacher Unions, Testing Agencies, and Governmental and Nonprofit Organizations
- Creating and Organizing Teacher Diversity Initiatives
- Advocating for Teacher Diversity
- Professional Development, Mentorship, and Retention for Teacher Diversity
- Spotlighting a Range of Educator Preparation Pipelines for Teachers of Color
At the institute, the recipient of the DTW Teacher Diversity Research Award will also be honored for outstanding research and advocacy related to policies, practices, programs, pedagogies, systems, and/or institutions for the purpose of advancing teacher diversity. The research leadership embodied by the recipient of this award reflects the DTW Topical Action Group mission and goals and advances our current understanding of how to diversify the teacher workforce to enhance educational opportunities for all students. In recognition and honor of the researcher’s work, the recipient of this award will receive a $1,000 honorarium and be invited to give a featured research talk at the February DTW Institute.
To submit a nomination (self-nominations accepted) for the DTW Teacher Diversity Research Award, read the award description and instructions. Be sure to submit award materials by December 15!
