AASCU Seeks Applications for 2017 Christa McAuliffe Excellence in Teacher Education Award
The American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) invites applications by April 21 for the 2017 Christa McAuliffe Excellence in Teacher Education Award. Only public colleges and universities that are members of AASCU are eligible to apply for the award, which honors exemplary teacher preparation and professional development programs.
To win this award, teacher education and professional development programs must –
- Demonstrate effectiveness in producing positive PK-12 learning outcomes
- Explain how they have redesigned their programs as a result of these PK-12 learning outcomes (with evidence including, but not limited to, state data – when and where available)
The purpose of the two-fold criteria is to ensure that states with rich data systems do not provide an unfair competitive advantage for their institutions, and that strategies and programs recognized by the award have the broadest possible application.
Preliminary screening of applications will be conducted by a group of deans appointed by the Teacher Education Council of State Colleges and Universities (TECSCU); final selection will be made by an AASCU presidential selection committee. The award is presented to the winning program’s president/chancellor at the AASCU Annual Meeting in October. Another presentation is made to the winning dean(s) of education at the AACTE Annual Meeting the following March.
Twenty-six programs have been honored with this award since 2002. For more information, visit the award web page or contact me at 202-478-4649 or westerhofj@aascu.org.
Apply online by April 21!
