Come Early to Tampa for AACTE Preconference Events
The AACTE Annual Meeting always presents a full schedule of opportunities for registrants, even before the conference officially begins. The 2017 event in Tampa, Florida, will uphold this tradition with a wide variety of preconference meetings, workshops, and other events on the schedule for March 1.
As always, several affiliate organizations and leadership groups will hold business meetings, including the Florida state chapter, various deans’ organizations, and AACTE’s Board of Directors, standing committees, and topical action groups. (Separate registration may be required for some of these meetings–if in doubt, check with your group!) Special events will also be offered for participants in certain AACTE initiatives, and an assessment–focused workshop is available for anyone to register.

Rubrics, and Validity, and Reliability: Oh My!
8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. / $50
Educator preparation providers are working diligently to meet increased expectations surrounding accountability of their programs and their completers’ impact on PK–12 student learning. This half–day preconference session will provide opportunities for teacher educators to discuss how they are meeting these expectations, develop valid and reliable rubrics to assess candidates’ performance in clinical experiences, and acquire strategies to respond to the call for accountability. Diversified Teaching Workforce Institute
8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. / Registration coming soon
Teacher educators, researchers, and PK–12 practitioners will share their work to improve the diversity of the teaching workforce. The institute includes a panel discussion and keynote luncheon, various breakout working sessions, and a closing reception to encourage interaction and resource-sharing among participants from AACTE’s Holmes Program, Black and Hispanic/Latino Male Teachers Initiative Networked Improvement Community, and Diversified Teaching Workforce topical action group.
Strengthening Leadership Through Communities of Professional Learning (Sponsored By the Wallace Foundation)
8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. / Registration coming soon
Higher education leaders and their PK-12 partners will join in conversations on key issues affecting the preparation of education leaders in this daylong event sponsored by The Wallace Foundation. Focused through the Annual Meeting theme, “Acting as One: The Power of the Professional Community,” participants will engage in collaboration and learning with PK-24 colleagues from around the nation to examine innovative models and responses to persistent problems of practice in educational leadership.
Holmes Program Annual Meeting
8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. / By invitation
This annual convening of members of the AACTE Holmes Program includes a variety of presentations, research symposia, and networking opportunities with fellow students, coordinators, program alumni, and AACTE representatives. Participants will join the Diversified Teaching Workforce Institute for the afternoon.
