Register by June 2 for AACTE’s Leadership Academy

The registration and hotel deadline for this year’s AACTE Leadership Academy is fast approaching. Reserve your spot by June 2 for this unique and engaging professional development opportunity in Portland, Oregon, June 26-30 at the Hilton Portland & Executive Tower! As always, the program will be led by a roster of faculty who are experts in various aspects of educator preparation and administration. This year’s passionate team includes both new and veteran academy faculty (click here to learn more about each one):

Kandi Hill-Clarke
Walter H. Gmelch
John Henning
Patricia McHatton
Jennifer Roth
Angela
Maynard Sewall

  • Walt Gmelch, University of San Francisco (CA)
  • John Henning , Monmouth University (NJ)
  • Kandi Hill-Clarke, Indiana State University
  • Patricia McHatton, University of Texas Rio Grande Valley
  • Jennifer Roth, Fort Collins High School, Colorado
  • Angela Sewall, University of Arkansas at Little Rock

This team will lead participants in a robust program of activities (see the online schedule) ranging from general sessions and “job-alike” breakout groups to breakfast conversations on attendee-requested topics. Participants are free to attend the sessions and topics that best fit their needs. In addition to mixing with different peer groups in a variety of session formats, attendees and faculty will get out of the “classroom” together for a group outing in the city.

The academy’s program and lasting peer connections win kudos from alumni, some of whom return to repeat the program when they move to another level of administration. Take John Henning, for example—one of the new additions to the faculty—who himself is a three-time alumnus of the AACTE Leadership Academy. In a recent video testimonial, Henning describes the valuable perspectives he gained as he moved first into a department chair position, then became an associate dean, and ultimately took a dean’s appointment. Even as the popular format and topics continue from previous years, others are new, and each cohort of participants brings a fresh vibe to the event.

A special addition to this year’s program is a morning of sessions focused on preparing educators to serve exceptional learners. Guest speakers from the CEEDAR (Collaboration for Effective Educator Development, Accountability, and Reform) Center and the Ohio Deans Compact on Exceptional Children will share perspectives on leadership roles as well as key resources in special education. Learn more about this collaborative effort in Rod Lucero’s recent blog.

This event would not be possible without the help from our sponsors. We are grateful to Edthena and Teachers Test Prep for their generous support!

To take advantage of the conference room rate of $179 per night, make your reservation by June 2. Leadership Academy registration is also open through June 2, but space is limited! Register now to secure your spot.
