Global Learning Colloquia Coming to Denver

AACTE is proud to support two daylong colloquia at the annual conference of NAFSA: Association of International Educators in Denver, Colorado, May 31 and June 3.

On Tuesday, May 31, the Global Learning Colloquium on Teacher Education will focus on the theme “High-Impact Global Learning Experiences and Curricular Design.” The program runs 9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. and will address how to prepare preservice teachers to work with diverse populations, understand how their practice affects both local and global communities, and be culturally responsive in pedagogy and curriculum choices. Participants will hear from global education organizations as well as from teacher educators from California State University, Kent State University (OH), Southern Connecticut State University, the University of Connecticut, the University of Missouri, and the University of Nevada-Reno.

On Friday, June 3, the Global Learning Colloquium on General Education will focus on the theme “Assessment and Curricular Design Strategies for Global Learning Across the Disciplines.” Running 8:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m., the program includes sessions on various curriculum models, assessment principles, and building institution-wide support. Participants will discuss how to move their institutions from a focus on global learning in a single course to one implemented through a broad curricular framework, how to align global learning goals with general student-learning goals, and more.

Open to U.S. faculty members and academic leaders as well as international educators, each colloquium is designed to help participants define student learning outcomes, design pathways that produce these outcomes across the curriculum, and develop practices to bring global perspectives into the classroom. Participants will meet in small groups with expert facilitators to explore global learning in disciplinary and cross-disciplinary contexts.

NAFSA is offering reduced registration fees for the colloquia:

  • $129 for individuals who have also registered for the NAFSA 2016 Annual Conference & Expo
  • $229 for individuals who have not registered for the NAFSA 2016 Annual Conference & Expo
