Mark Your Calendar for AACTE Summer Events
Kick off the summer with AACTE’s signature June events: Washington Week and the Leadership Academy. Join your colleagues from around the country in Washington, DC, advocating for the profession on Capitol Hill and participating in a special conference on closing the achievement gap in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields; or meet with fellow new deans and administrators in Cincinnati, Ohio, for intensive leadership development and networking. These are two popular summer conferences, so mark your calendar today!
Washington Week: June 9-11
The STEM conference, June 9, along with Day on the Hill, June 10-11, will be the main features of this year’s Washington Week, held annually in the nation’s capital. In partnership with the National Science Foundation, AACTE will lead a conversation on “Progress and Factors That Contribute to Closing the STEM Achievement Gap,” with special focus on closing the achievement gap through the preparation of effective science and mathematics educators and collaborative interdisciplinary partnerships.
During the first part of Day on the Hill, AACTE members will get oriented to what’s happening in Washington around teacher preparation, including activity at the Department of Education and in Congress. After covering key messages to share in meetings, attendees will learn from each other on how to hold Hill meetings and learn what advocacy requires—both in Washington and, more importantly, back home. In addition, congressional and federal speakers are invited to address the AACTE orientation. The next day, attendees will apply what they learned during meetings with their senators and their representative (or staff), making sure the voice of the profession is heard.
Washington Week also offers AACTE chapter leaders a chance to attend the State Leaders Institute, June 9-10, for engaging discussions on the trends in state policies affecting educator preparation. In addition, AACTE Holmes Scholars® gain an insider experience in the world of education policy at the Holmes Scholars Summer Policy Institute, June 9-11, which includes participation in Day on the Hill.
Washington Week offers something for everyone! Registration is now open. (Register for Day on the Hill together with the State Leaders Institute or the STEM conference and get 15% off your total registration fees.)
Leadership Academy: June 28 – July 2
The dynamic AACTE Leadership Academy is held each summer for new deans, department chairs, and other academic administrators looking to advance their careers. This year’s academy will feature the latest in leadership development while providing attendees a supportive network of peers and mentors in an intimate setting at the Hilton Cincinnati.
Leadership Academy registration is open through June 5.
