AACTE Board Approves CAEP Technical Assistance, Discontinues Resolutions
The AACTE Board of Directors met September 11-12 in Atlanta, Georgia. The meeting agenda, led by Chair Julie Underwood (University of Wisconsin Madison), dealt with topics from the Innovation Exchange and membership engagement to the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP), as well as information around the organization’s operations and federal and state policy updates.
President/CEO Sharon P. Robinson reported on the operations of the organization, highlighting the Innovation Exchange, growth in membership, a successful 2014 Annual Meeting, and a strong first application cycle for the Research Fellowship.
During the meeting, the Board approved the creation of a CAEP consultation and technical assistance program, which will be further defined over the coming months. Directors also voted to sunset all existing Resolutions of the Membership and to discontinue the resolutions program entirely, citing lack of member engagement in the program. AACTE will continue to issue position statements as warranted via current communication channels.
The slate for the Board of Directors election was finalized, and the candidates will be announced soon for the election, which occurs online in November. In addition, the standing committee appointments for the coming year were approved.
Finally, the Board spent some time discussing the future of the profession and how we can continue to improve our practice in a world that is increasingly critical of educator preparation programs.
The Board’s next meeting will be February 26, 2015, in Atlanta, immediately preceding the Annual Meeting.
