Who’s Who? Preview AACTE Workshop Facilitators, Topics

When you attend AACTE’s Quality Support Workshop, you don’t just sit back and observe–you roll up your sleeves and work! See who’s coming to Columbus, Ohio, August 2-4, to help you develop action plans for your own program and dig deeper into the issues that matter most to you.

During the first half of the event, everyone will work on their quality assurance plans in a series of three 90-minute sessions. You’ll follow one of two tracks–choose Track A if you’re just getting started with a quality assurance plan, or Track B if you want to revisit or refine your approach. Track A will be led by Carol Ryan of Northern Kentucky University and Joe Lubig of Northern Michigan University. Track B will be led by Kathy Bohan, Cynthia Conn, and Suzanne Pieper of Northern Arizona University.

At last year’s Quality Support Workshops, these facilitators and session topics were among the favorites–so we’re thrilled to bring them back as well as to ensure everyone has the opportunity to experience them through the opening tracks.

In the second half of the workshop, three more large time blocks will include choices for several concurrent topics such as these:

  • Mark Meyers of Xavier University (OH) will help you “connect the dots” between quality assurance and accountability expectations.
  • Beth Kubitskey of Eastern Michigan University will show you how to develop a continuous improvement plan that demonstrates success, identifies areas of improvement, and is valid and reliable.
  • Marcy Keifer-Kennedy and Chris Kennedy of Ohio University will walk you through how to capture your clinical partnership work as evidence for quality assurance and accountability purposes.
  • Kathy Bohan, Cynthia Conn, Suzanne Pieper, and Nicole Bies-Hernandez of Northern Arizona University will guide you in leveraging quality assurance for accreditation–and vice versa.

Other session choices will focus on topics related to teacher performance assessment, diversity and inclusion as essential elements of quality, and more. A full agenda will be released next week with session times, descriptions, and facilitator details.

The six major workshop blocks will be framed by keynote addresses on the first 2 days from Ohio University’s Renée A. Middleton and Ohio State Superintendent of Education Paolo DeMaria. You’ll also enjoy group work time, peer consultation on problems of practice, a gallery walk and reception, and office hours with facilitators, plus time to converse with AACTE President/CEO Lynn M. Gangone. You won’t want to miss this opportunity!
