Call for Entries: AACTE Dissertation Award

Do you know someone who recently completed a prize-worthy doctoral dissertation related to educator preparation? Please help spread the word: Applications for AACTE’s 2019 Outstanding Dissertation Award are being accepted in our online submission system now through August 20.

This award recognizes excellence in doctoral dissertation research (or its equivalent) that contributes to the knowledge base of educator preparation or of teaching and learning with implications for educator preparation. Dissertations completed since January 2017 are eligible for consideration, regardless of what institution awarded the doctorate (member or nonmember of AACTE).

Please note that our reviewers do not want to receive full dissertations! Instead, we request a 10-page narrative answering a series of questions about the study, along with a letter of support from the dissertation adviser/chair. Submissions also include a blinded copy of the original abstract, table of contents, and references. See the call for entries (PDF) for more specific submission requirements.

As always, entries will be reviewed by the AACTE Committee on Research and Dissemination. Applicants will be notified of the committee’s decision in November, and the winner will be recognized during the 2019 Annual Meeting, to be held February 22-24 in Louisville, Kentucky. The winner also receives $1,000!

A quick reminder: AACTE is simultaneously soliciting entries for the Outstanding Book Award, with a nomination deadline of May 3. The call for entries for AACTE’s other 2019 awards will be available later this spring. Meanwhile, contact me if you have any questions about the Writing and Research Awards.
