Explore Strategic Deployment of Teacher Leaders at Quality Support Workshop

How can you unleash the power of teacher leaders to connect preservice and in-service educators … to enhance clinical partnerships between educator preparation providers and PK-12 schools … and to inform the quality of programs and practice across the continuum of teacher development? Join with peers from your region at an AACTE Quality Support Workshop to construct solutions collaboratively to these and other compelling issues around performance assessment, quality assurance, and continuous improvement.

These workshops will be offered in three regions this year: Fort Worth, Texas (April 24-26); Minneapolis, Minnesota (August 10-12), and Seattle, Washington (November 9-11). At each event, over two half days and one full day, participants will engage in interactive plenary sessions, select from a variety of topics available in break-out blocks, have dedicated time to work in teams and consult with facilitators, and enjoy networking receptions to wrap up each day. See the chart below for an overview of the draft program for the Fort Worth workshop (and visit our website for specific dates and times).

Closing Session

You can choose to sample different topics in each break-out block, or follow a thematic track of particular interest, such as accreditation, internal quality assurance systems, or aspects of edTPA or the new NOTE assessment tasks.

Ideally you’ll bring a team of colleagues from your institution to make headway on these topics together – in fact, the main reason we’re taking these workshops on the road is to make it more accessible and affordable to more faculty – but we’ll also offer facilitated roundtable discussions during the team blocks for those attending alone or looking to interact across institutions.

The closing session is when you’ll focus on the teacher-leader questions noted above. Led by Anne Marie Fenton, director of rules management and educator assessment for the Georgia Professional Standards Commission, the event will wrap up with this exploration of “Leveraging Teacher Leadership to Bridge Preservice and In-Service Individualized Support.” Discuss current practices and challenges, learn about successful models, and design new ways for teacher leaders to help meet the needs of individual candidates as well as partner schools. You’ll interactively examine the potential roles of teacher leaders to continuously improve the quality of teaching and impact on PK-12 learning across the professional continuum, including recruitment, preparation, induction, retention, and renewal of effective educators. A closing large-group synthesis activity will complete the session.

Registration is open for the Fort Worth and Minneapolis workshops; Seattle will be available soon. Space is limited, so it’s best to secure your place at the table early, and rates are lowest with advance registration. Online registration for Fort Worth closes March 19, which is also when the group hotel rate expires, so act now if you’re looking to attend the Texas workshop.
