Join a National Conversation on University Principal Preparation Redesign

AACTE invites you to view a livestreamed panel discussion on preliminary findings from The Wallace Foundation’s University Principal Preparation Initiative (UPPI) at 10:30-11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 12, 2018. Register here.

Many district and university leaders agree that most university-based programs do not prepare principals to reflect the real-world demands of the job according to a 2016 survey. Consequently, seven universities participating in the Wallace initiative set out to redesign their programs to be more effective. A 2018 independent study by the RAND Corporation, Launching a Redesign of University Principal Preparation Programs, now suggests that the universities’ complex redesign efforts are beginning to pay off—through comprehensive, interdependent partnerships with local districts and the state.

The panel will focus on one UPPI participant, Florida Atlantic University, and its partners.

Panelists:

  • Paul Burns, Deputy Chancellor for Educator Quality, Florida Department of Education
  • Annemarie Dilbert, Principal, Crosspointe Elementary School, The School District of Palm Beach County
  • Daniel Reyes-Guerra, Associate Professor and UPPI Director, Florida Atlantic University
  • Ted Toomer, Director of Leadership Development, Broward County Public Schools

Moderator:

  • Steve Tozer, Professor Emeritus in Educational Policy studies, University of Illinois Chicago

This livestreamed event is recommended for those who desire to enhance their principal preparation program and would like to discuss factors relevant to their own university and local context. You are also encouraged to host a Watch Party with your faculty members and key stakeholders. Wallace will provide each Watch Party host with suggested discussion questions to help foster conversation. The host may request hard copies of the 2018 RAND report for advance reading or distribution at the event.

There will be an opportunity to submit questions for the panelists following the livestreamed discussion that will take place at 11:30 a.m. – 12noon on that day.
