Highlights From Educational Horizons

The December 2014/January 2015 issue of Educational Horizons is now available from Pi Lambda Theta.

Thanks to a partnership with Phi Delta Kappa and Pi Lambda Theta, all AACTE members receive free online access to this magazine for future teachers as a benefit of their AACTE membership. Chief Representatives also receive each issue by mail.

Here are some highlights from the current issue to share with your students:

Teachers’ Mindsets: “Every Student Has Something to Teach Me.” Stanford professor and author Carol Dweck shows new teachers how the growth mindset can help them thrive. If your students think their natural teaching ability has deserted them, maybe it’s time for them to pair a growth mindset with reasonable goals, patience, and reflection.

Make Friends With Student Data. Your students may equate data with test scores, but there’s more to data than that. Understanding different types of data about their students will enable them to know what to teach and which students will need more attention. This article will get them started using data to improve their instruction.

LOL Teacher! Using Humor to Enhance Student Learning. Laughing with students can help them connect on a deeper level with the teacher and the learning. Here are four ways your students can weave humor into their teaching.
