2014 Washington Week Registration Now Open

Next week’s AACTE Annual Meeting calls on us to “take charge of change.” Heed the call by signing up now to join your peers this June in Washington, DC, for action in advocacy!

With federal education programs facing budget cuts, potential teacher preparation regulations on the horizon, reauthorization looming for the Higher Education Act and the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, and partisan gridlock, now is a crucial time to learn how you can become an effective advocate for the profession. AACTE’s signature advocacy conference, Washington Week, offers three key events to assist in building members’ capacity for advocacy: Day on the Hill, the State Leaders Institute, and the Holmes Scholars Summer Policy Institute.

  • At AACTE’s Day on the Hill June 11-12, members will get an in-depth look at the latest action on Capitol Hill and in the Obama administration at a half-day briefing. Attendees then will meet with their congressional delegations to inform them about issues important to educator preparation.
  • At the State Leaders Institute June 10-11, leaders of AACTE state chapters will discuss state policy trends and advocacy strategies, learn from each other about effective chapter practices, and network with other state leaders. Registrants may also participate in Day on the Hill at a reduced registration rate.
  • AACTE Holmes Scholars® looking to expand their network and engage on federal education policy issues are encouraged to attend the Holmes Scholars Summer Policy Institute June 9-13. This event is an opportunity for Scholars to meet with leaders in national education organizations, learn about professional pathways in Washington, and support each other’s doctoral work. Registration for the institute includes participation in Day on the Hill.
